Birthday Oranges

I didn't write a birthday post this year, but I turned 28 last month, and I have the expired license to prove it. Other than the massive amount of friends hanging around a tapped keg, shedding their clothes and dancing around to Spoon in their underwear, I'd have to say overall this was one of the most "normal" birthdays I ever had.

I didn't analyze my life too much. I didn't particularly feel old or young or successful or not, either, but I did have a great party with barbecue (including veggie burgers for me), and this amazing strawberry salsa Nikki made, and Angie brought avocados, and my boyfriend along with a good friend made it possible. Even my friends from Austin came, my best friends whom I tried to contact for two weeks in advance. With no reply, they did show up to surprise me, which made my weekend.

I also ate Freebirds for the first time. I had just about the biggest burrito I've ever seen in my life, with a spinach tortilla and grilled veggies and garlic and this barbecue stuff they have and sour cream and cheese and beans and other goodies.

It helps when you start thinking you are your age before you are your age. Maybe that's how it works in the first place. I don't know. It also helps that I still get asked to show ID for cigarettes and beer. It's a pain in the ass, considering I've got some renewing to do; still, it's OK with me.
